Ana Isabel Lopes, Ph.D., is a full time Assistant Professor of the Accounting Department at Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL) and integrated member of the researcher center BRU/UNIDE, in Lisbon (Portugal). She has experience in teaching in doctoral and master programs, executive education, and undergraduate programs, engaging in courses related with financial accounting and business reporting, management control in multinationals, and consolidated financial statements. Currently, she is Director of the MSc program in Accounting and she is the Executive Director of the post-graduation in Finance and Accounting Applied. She has an extensive experience in coordinating programs in high education institutions. She also supervises doctoral and master students' dissertations. She is active in presenting conference papers in national and international congresses (by submission or invitation). Her research interests cover international financial accounting and reporting, integrated and sustainability reporting, business combinations, and corporate governance. Ana Isabel has published in leading academic journals such as 'Australian Journal of Management', 'European Business Review', 'Accounting Education', 'Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting', 'Journal of Economics and Business', and 'Meditari Accountancy Research'.
Helena holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from Lancaster University, UK. She is full professor of accounting at Iscte Business School in Lisbon, and previously worked at Bayes Business School in London. She had visiting positions at the University of Miami in the US, where she was a Fulbright Research Scholar, and at Sydney University in Australia. Her research interests are on financial markets, corporate governance and international financial reporting. Helena participates regularly in top international conferences such as meetings of the European Accounting Association, American Accounting Association, and European Finance Association. She is often invited to speak at seminars, conferences, and doctoral meetings of prestigious European and US universities. Helena's research has been published in top journals in accounting and finance, such as the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance, and Journal of Business Ethics. Her research findings have been used by international organizations dealing with corporate reporting issues, such as the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the CFA Institute, and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG). Helena serves the community taking roles in various committees of the European Accounting Association, as associated editor of the journals European Accounting Review and Accounting Business Research, and as a member of evaluation panels for recruitment and for PhD grants. During her career, Helena managed various research projects funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation FCT, participated in an European Training Network, and won several awards including Best European PhD thesis in Management by EDAMBA, best conference papers, and best reviewer. Helena has also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to develop a one year research project at the University of Miami in the US.
Ilídio Tomás Lopes was born on January 18, 1966, in the municipality of Abrantes (Portugal). He is currently a professor at "Iscte University Institute of Lisbon" and associate member of Bru_iscte Business Research Unit" of the same institution. He also teaches in the Executive Master in Business Management (Iscte_Executive Education) and in the Graduation of Economy and Regulation of Financial Institutions (Ipps_iscte). He is currently: Director of "Audax_iscte"; President of the Supervisory Board of "Iscte Conhecimento e Inovação", and Member of the Supervision Committee of OROC - Ordem dos REvisores Oficiais de Contas. He was Non-Executive Director, Member of Auditing Committee and Member of the Corporate Governance Committe, of Banco BIC Português, S.A. (EuroBic); Member of the Supervisory Board of Novartis Farma - Produtos Farmacêuticos, SA.;PhD in Business Management, Specialization in Accounting (University of Coimbra, 2009), Master in Statistics and Information Management (ISEGI, New University of Lisbon, 2001) and Graduation in Business Organization and Management (ISEG, University of Lisbon, 1990). Over is career as professor (since 1994), he was a professor at the School of Management and Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (1997 to 2013), acting between 2011 and 2013 dean of the institution. He was also a collaborative professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (2006 to 2011). Responsible for several curricular units such as: Auditing; Financial Auditing; Financial Performance Evaluation; Financial Accounting II; Bank Accounting. He also held management positions in several multinational companies. Author of several scientific publications, member of several national and international scientific committees and reviewer of articles for scientific journals in the scientific fields of Management and Accounting. Author of the books "Management Control: An Integrated View of Business Performance" (Edições Almedina, 2019, 2020), "Accounting and Finance for Non financial managers" (Edições Almedina, 2020), "Financial Auditing: From Internal Control to Independent External Control" (Edições Almedina, 2019, 2022), "Financial Accounting: Preparation of Financial Statements, Disclosure and Analysis" (Escolar Editora, 2013, 2017, 2021), "The Management of Intellectual Capital and Intangibles in the Age of Knowledge" (Escolar Editora, 2013) and" Financial Accounting: Resolved and Proposed Exercises" (Edições Almedina, 2017, 2019). Coauthor of the book "Societies: Accounting and Tax Aspects" (Escolar Editora, 2016), among others. He has published in several international journals, including: Measuring Business Excellence; International Journal of Business Excellence; International Journal of Disclosure and Governance; International Journal of Business Performance Management; Business: Theory and Practice, International Journal of Business Innovation and Research. His main areas of interest are: 1. Financial Accounting; 2. Corporate Governance; 3. Audit and Internal Control; 4. Financial Management and Performance; 5. Risk Assessment and Compliance.
Inna Paiva (PhD) is Assistant Professor in the Instituto Univeritário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL). She has experience in teaching in master’s programmes and programmes for executive education, and engages with courses related to financial accounting, business reporting and public accounting.
She also supervises master’s students’ dissertations and has made various presentations in in international scientific conferences and authored papers and book chapters. For several years, she was the director of the Master’s in Accounting and Taxation and the Bachelor’s Degree Course Accounting, Taxation and Auditing in the Universidade Lusófona.
Her research interests lie in the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards, accounting quality and family firms. She has published her research in book chapters and in journals such as the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, the Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting, the Review of Accounting and Finance. She has also published a text book: Contabilidade Pública - As Novas Demonstrações para Relato em Sistema de Normalização Contabilística para as Administrações Públicas/ Public Accounting - The New Report Statements in the Accounting Normalization System for Public Administration and she is the author of practical case studies in the text book Fundamentos de Contabilidade Financeira: teoria e casos/ Foundations of Financial Accounting: theory and case studies.
Isabel Lourenço is Full Professor and Director of the Accounting Department at ISCTE-IUL. She has a PhD in Management (specialization in Accounting) from ISCTE-IUL. She has about 30 years of experience teaching accounting topics in several academic programs (Bachelor, Master and PhD Programs) and Executive education programs at ISCTE-IUL.
She is a visiting professor at the University of São Paulo, where she teaches regularly in the Master and PhD programs in accounting. She has also been teaching and giving leatures at other universities in Brazil and at universities from other countries including the University of Glasgow, the Coventry University, and the University of Lille.
She is an Integrated Researcher at the ISCTE Business Research Unit (BRU-IUL). She regularly presents the results of her research at the most prestigious international scientific conferences. She has authored several scientific papers published in leading scientific journals including, for example, the European Accounting Review, Accounting and Business Research, Accounting Forum, Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies, and Journal of Business Ethics. She has also authored more than 10 accounting text-books.
She has played an important role in the bodies that regulate accounting in Portugal. She is the Coordinator of the Corporate Accounting Standardization Committee of the Portuguese Accounting Standards Board (Comissão de Normalização Contabilística). She is also member of the jury of the Exam of entrance to the Portuguese Association of Chartered Accountants (Ordem dos Revisores Oficiais de Contas).
Currently, she is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Payshop and IMGA.
Jonas Oliveira holds a PhD in Accounting from the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho, Portugal. He is an Associate Professor of Accounting at ISCTE-IUL Business School, Lisbon. He has previously worked at the University of Aveiro as Adjunct Professor of Accounting. His research interests are corporate risk reporting, enterprise risk management, corporate governance mechanisms, impression management strategies used in corporate reporting, sustainability and integrated reporting. He publishes academic articles regularly in some internationally well-recognized journals such as the Managerial Auditing Journal, Meditari Accountancy Research, Australian Accounting Review, Corporate Communications: an International Journal, European Business Review, and Journal of Risk.
José Dias Curto is full professor at Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL Business School, Quantitative Methods Departament) and investigator at Business Research Unit (BRU-IUL), Lisboa, Portugal. He earned his PhD in Quantitative Methods for Management from the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), MA in Management from Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL) and Bachellor's degree in Economics from Instituto Superior de Economia, Portugal. His primary research focuses statistics and econometrics with applications to finance, accounting and economics. Maria João Major (publication name, Maria Major) is Full Professor of Management Accounting and Control at ISCTE-IUL (Lisbon, Portugal). She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, UK and a Post-doc from the Manchester Business School, UK. Maria João was visiting researcher fellow at Alliance Manchester Business School, UK in 2016 and at Griffith University, Australia in 2001. She has published in academic journals such as ‘Management Accounting Research’, ‘European Accounting Review’, ‘Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal’, ‘Accounting, Organizations and Society’, 'Financial Accountability & Management', ‘Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting & Financial Management’ and ‘Public Money and Management’, among others. Maria João is also the author or co-author of several books and international book chapters. She is on the editorial board of ‘Qualitative Research on Accounting and Management’, ‘Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change’, ‘Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting & Financial Management’ and earlier on the editorial board of the ‘European Accounting Review’. She is additionally active in refereeing articles for a number of leading accounting journals. Maria João has served as member of scientific committees in several international accounting conferences. She was the convenor of ‘Manufacturing Accounting Research (EIASM) 2016’ and of the ‘European Network for Research on Organizational and Accounting Change (ENROAC) 2011’ conferences. Aditionally, Maria João has received teaching awards as best professor. Prior to joining ISCTE-IUL she was Associate Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics where she taught in the PhD, Master, Bachelor and Executive Education programmes.
